Welcome to the Journey!

December 17, 2007

I can’t express how excited I am about the route 66 journey we’re undertaking at Palm Valley this year. My prayer for every person in our church is that you will hear from God every day this year. We hear so many messages on a daily basis: the news, sportscenter, teachers, etc…but in reality the one voice we need to hear is God’s. I can promise you confidently that if you’ll read your Bible daily, you’ll hear from God daily.

Some important reminders:

  • Make sure you get a One Year Bible (we’re using the NLT version). You can get it at any Christian bookstore or online. (You can also download the daily reading plan here.)
  • Plan now what time you will set aside everyday. I recommend you set aside 30 minutes at the same time each day to be “my time with God”.
  • Bring a pen and notebook so you can journal things you’re learning, prayers, and questions you want to ask your Home Team.
  • Journey together! Find some other people (family, friends, co-workers, HT members) so you can encourage each other throughout the year.
  • Read with expectation. The Bible is God’s Word to us, so as you open it, pray and open your heart to what God wants to say to you each day.

Please know I’m praying for you each day. I can’t imagine what God is going to do in and through us as a church family this year as we read the Bible together each day. Also, make sure you’re at one of our service on January 5th/6th as we begin to travel the route 66, God’s super-highway of information!

Warmly,

Pastor Greg

Angie & I can’t wait to get reading. It’ll be a blast to experience the entire bible with our awesome home team, as well as the rest of the church family! :)

I’m super excited to do this with my home team. My parent’s pastor preached yesterday on Psalm 119 and how important it is not just to be in the Word, but to LOVE it. I can honestly say I’m looking forward to reading His Word every day and knowing I have thousands of people who can keep me accountable. :-)

What an awesome opportunity ahead for us! I, like many others, am looking forward to reading the entire bible as well. Most importantly though, I look forward to hearing from God, each day! Happy New Year to everyone, and let’s see what the Lord has in store for us in 2008!

    His Grace,
    Charles

I know that our Pastor will keep us inspired and on-track.

    Happy New Year Everyone.

Thank you for this opportunity and for taking the time to set this website up. We pray for everyone at Palm Valley to start and finish reading the bible in one year. Its exciting to know the growth that is going to take place, and the numerous doors God is going to open during our travel together down Route 66!

This will be the first time Bob has read the entire bible. I am very excited because this has become our New Year’s resolution to read the bible together everyday. What a great opportunity to spend time as man and wife daily in the word. Something we never found the time to do together before. Happy New Year to PVC.

As a teenager, I was consumed by cars and early on always wanted to travel the entire Route 66, never have gotten the chance. BUT, this year I will be 66 and in the spirit of our church journry will be “traveling” via a vision….Learning more about the 66 books of the Bible will be rewarding, exciting and nostalgic at the same time.

    Pastor Greg:

I am loving the reading! I thank God for His Word as it is so nourishing for the Spirit. In reading though, I am left with some questions and I would be interested in your thoughts. Here it goes:

In Genesis 6:3 God says, “My spirit will not contend with man forever.” What does that mean exactly? Verse 5 goes on to discuss how grieved the Lord was over man and his actions so He said He “will wipe out mankind.” Does this mean that when we were “created” the second time around, or recreated, that he created us with a spirit that dwells within us?

2 other things in reading that made me say Hmmmm…

Matthew 3:10 John says the ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. His Word says that next time He comes it will be by fire, so is this a key to those that will perish – the ones that don’t produce “good fruit?”

Matthew 4 I think it is a key that when Jesus is being tempted by the evil one each and every time He quotes The Word back to the devil. This shows the power The Word has and shows us an example of how to handle temptation. When we get temptatious thoughts we need to quote The Word, but how do we quote it if we don’t know what it says – hence the reading, the studying, the praying and hearing from God.

I love the comments. It’s great to see so many people into God’s Word!

    Vicki, I love your questions.

The answer to your question about Genesis 6:3 is found in the second half of the verse where God limits the lifespan of man.

In Matthew 3:10, John is addressing the Jewish leaders who arrogantly thought that in the days of the Messiah, they would be “in” just because of their heritage. He is introducing the power of God in Jesus. As you will soon see in Jesus’ teaching, God cares about the heart, not the pedigree. Also, fire is often used to describe God’s power.

    Keep up the great studying!
