December 30th: Praise the Lord!

December 30, 2008

Scripture:

Praise the Lord! How good to sing praises to our God! How delightful and how fitting! Psalm147:1

Observation:

The sacrifice of praise (from a grateful heart) is pleasing to the Lord.

Application:

I frequently find myself singing hymns of praise to God.  I always see this as a great opportunity to lift up the name of the Lord.  Paul and Silas did this late one night while other prisoners were listening to them and……………..suddenly the prison doors flew open (see Acts 16:25-29).  I’m encouraged and strengthened in my heart when I sing praises to God.  The doors of selfishness and the concerns of this world…………..suddenly take a back seat to the wonders of God.

“It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, 2to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night………………..4For you make me glad by your deeds, O Lord; I sing for joy at the works of your hands. 5How great are your works, O Lord, how profound your thoughts” (Psalm 92:1-2, 4-5).

I have a friend who constantly says, “Praise the Lord” when answering his phone.  His heart is pure and it’s such a delight and a source of encouragement for me to hear this.  More importantly, I’m sure it’s pleasing to the Lord.

Prayer:

Lord – it’s good to sing praises to you.  I’m thankful that I can proclaim your love in the morning and at night.  You are faithful!  Thanks for changing me as I continue to read your word each day.
